Here for the Red Drum?

Every fall, bull Red Drum move south through the Corolla beach in large schools, making the northern Outer Banks one of the best surf fishing destinations on the East Coast. North Carolina holds 10 of 16 world records for Red Drum — and the current world record, 94 lbs 2 oz, was caught right here in 1984.

No boat required. Stop in and we’ll set you up with the right tackle, fresh bait, and everything you need to fish the Corolla surf. The advice is always free.

What to Expect Fishing the Outer Banks

The Outer Banks sits at the intersection of two of the most productive fisheries on the East Coast — the Atlantic Ocean and the inland sound system — which means the variety of species and conditions you can target here is genuinely hard to match anywhere else.

Spring and summer bring offshore action on Marlin, Wahoo, Mahi-Mahi, and Tuna along the Gulf Stream, plus nearshore bottom fishing for Sea Bass, Grouper, and Triggerfish. In the fall, bull Red Drum stack up in the Corolla surf in numbers that draw anglers from across the country. Come winter, Striped Bass move through in force — first in the backcountry sound, then in the ocean as water temps drop — for some of the most exciting light tackle fishing on the East Coast.

Most people come to the OBX for the beach. Smart ones come for the fishing.
